NorthPoint Equipment Rentals provided a mini excavator rental to a septic contractor in Meredith, NH for a complete septic system replacement on a residential lakefront property. The job required precision excavation in a confined backyard with a 26-inch wide access gate, mature landscaping on all sides, and a leach field footprint 60 feet from the house.
The contractor rented NorthPoint’s Kubota U35 — a zero-tail-swing mini excavator with a 30-inch transport width capable of passing through the gate and operating within the landscaped yard without damage. Delivered from NorthPoint’s Tilton location, the U35 handled the complete three-day septic install with zero damage to the surrounding lawn.

The Meredith lakefront property presented tight constraints that ruled out standard compact excavators:
Gate access: The only access to the backyard was a 26-inch wide wooden gate — eliminating any machine wider than 30 inches. Mature landscaping: Established perennial beds and a stone wall bordered three sides of the work area, leaving a 12-foot working corridor for the excavator. Septic depth: NH DES permit specifications required tank cavity excavation to 7 feet and leach field trenches at 48-inch depth — deeper than hand-digging but achievable with the right compact machine. Lakefront sensitivity: The property’s proximity to Lake Winnipesaukee meant any soil disturbance outside the permitted footprint could trigger a DES compliance issue.
