What is the smallest excavator available for rent at NorthPoint?
The smallest machine is the Bobcat E10 at 1.3 tons. Its retractable undercarriage narrows to 28 inches — it fits through a standard 30-inch doorway or gate. Zero tail swing allows full rotation in extremely tight spaces. It's the right machine for interior work, walled backyard access, and any site where a larger machine simply can't get in.
Do I need a license to operate an excavator in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire does not require a government-issued license to operate an excavator on private property. OSHA does require operators to be trained on the specific type of equipment they use. A standard bucket won't break through ledge. You'll need a hydraulic breaker attachment. NorthPoint carries breakers compatible with several excavator models. If you suspect ledge on your site, book the breaker when you reserve the excavator — don't wait until you're mid-job. NH's geology makes ledge encounters common across Grafton, Carroll, and Coos counties in particular. Call your location to confirm breaker availability for your machine.
Can I pick up an excavator myself instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Pickup is available at all five NorthPoint locations. You must provide a flatbed trailer rated for the machine's operating weight, with a compliant 5-point tie-down configuration, electric trailer brakes, valid registration, and current inspection. NorthPoint will not release equipment to an inadequate trailer or tow vehicle. Delivery is often the simpler option for excavators — call us to compare the logistics and cost.
Can NorthPoint deliver to my job site in the North Country or Coos County?
Yes. NorthPoint's Colebrook location (88 Main St, 603-255-3790) serves Coos County — including Pittsburg, Lancaster, Stewartstown, Gorham, and surrounding communities. Free delivery within 5 miles of the Colebrook store. Delivery throughout Coos County and the North Country is available for a fee, always quoted upfront.
