The ½" × 50-ft drain machine kit is the right tool for branch line blockages — sink drains, tub drains, floor drains, and smaller drain lines up to 3" where a mainline machine would be too aggressive and too much cable to manage. NorthPoint Equipment Rentals keeps this kit in stock at all five New Hampshire locations with cutter heads included, so you're not sourcing attachments separately before the job.
Branch line blockages are the most common drain problem a property owner or plumber will deal with — and they're almost always in pipe that a ¾" mainline cable has no business being in. Shoving a stiff, heavy cable into a 1½" or 2" branch line risks damaging fittings, cracking older pipe, or simply getting the cable stuck at a tight bend. The ½" cable on this machine is flexible enough to navigate standard P-traps, 90° sweeps, and the typical branch line geometry without forcing anything. It clears the blockage without creating a second problem.
The 50-foot cable length covers every realistic branch line scenario — from a kitchen sink drain that runs 8 feet to a stack, to a floor drain on the far side of a basement that picks up 30 feet of lateral before it ties into the main. You're not going to run out of cable on a branch line with 50 feet available. If the blockage is further than that, it's almost certainly in the main — and that's when you rent the ¾" mainline machine instead.
The "complete kit" designation means the cutter heads come with the machine. A drain cable without the right head is just a steel rope — the head does the actual work, and matching the right cutter to the blockage type matters. Grease and soap buildup clears differently than a hair clog, which clears differently than a soft obstruction from years of accumulated debris. The kit includes the heads you'll need for the blockages this machine is built to handle. Check what's in the kit at the counter when you pick it up and ask if you're not sure which head fits your situation.
This machine gets rented by a broad mix of people — licensed plumbers handling residential service calls, property managers dealing with tenant-reported slow drains, and homeowners who've already tried the drain chemicals and the hand auger and neither worked. It's approachable enough for a capable DIYer on a straightforward sink or tub clog, but it's also what a working plumber reaches for on a branch line service call when they don't have their own unit on the truck. If you're managing a rental property portfolio with recurring drain issues, a charge account with NorthPoint makes more sense than paying per-rental every time.
New Hampshire's older housing stock — cape-style homes, converted farmhouses, multi-family buildings from the early 1900s — tends to have shorter branch runs but older cast iron and galvanized drain pipe that's more prone to buildup than modern PVC. The ½" cable handles those lines without the risk of a heavier mainline cable putting stress on fittings that haven't been touched in decades. Our five NH locations stock this kit year-round, and our service area covers the towns where most of this work happens. Every rental is backed by our best price guarantee, and if you're not sure this is the right machine for your drain situation, our counter staff will tell you straight — including if the larger mainline unit is actually what you need.
Kit contents confirmed at pickup. Ask the counter staff if your blockage type requires a specific head not listed above.
